Job Summary:

Teach the theory, skills, and/or clinical portions of the Nurse Assisting program.


The Nurse Assisting program, a 7-credit, 4-month long certificate program trains, students to become assistants to licensed nurses and provide trustworthy care to elderly individuals. This program provides on-the-job knowledge and compassionate skills students need to succeed in the rigors and stresses associated with a career in health care. After students complete this program, they are eligible to sit for the Illinois Nurse Aide Competency Examination (INACE) to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). The CNA certification is a prerequisite for the Nursing Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) program. Nurse Assisting classes are offered at the Grayslake, Lakeshore and Southlake Campuses.

Job Description:

  •     Prepare class lectures and lesson plans.
  •     Grade student work.
  •     Assign final grades.
  •     Complete required administrative tasks.
  •     Observe safety protocols related to lab/clinical setting.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Associate's degree, Registered Nurse in Illinois, AND must have completed an approved IDPH Train the Trainer, Alzheimer AND Manual Skills Evaluator Course.
    • Instructors need to be approved by the IDPH prior to teaching.
    • Valid CPR card.
    • Ability to lift, push or carry 50 pounds or over.
    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
    • Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
    • One (1) year experience teaching in an accredited nurse's training program.
    • Demonstrated professional learning or certification in evidence-based student-focused pedagogical teaching and assessment practice such as ACUE, workshops and data use
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effectively communicating with a diverse student body.

    2024 -2025 - $1,323

    2025 -2026 - $1,373

    2025 -2027 - $1,414

The number of adjunct faculty hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Adjunct faculty hires and assignments are coordinated by the department chairs.
