Job Description:
Madison College is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join the Finance department in a part time - limited term employment (LTE) position. This position will provide backfill support for the Student Financials (SF) team during the implementation of Madison College's new Student Information System, Workday. Key responsibilities include assisting students with questions related to their financial accounts via phone and email.
The Accounting Specialist will also support the SF team with processing student and general payments, preparing bank deposits, mailing student checks, monitoring and following up on unclaimed property, and managing third-party and accounts receivable tasks such as invoicing, payment processing, and reconciliations.
This is a part-time, up to 29 hours a week, limited-term position through May 28, 2027. Flexible core working hours 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday, Tuesday & Thursday. Subject to change per Madison College policy.
The Accounting Specialist reports to the Financial Accounting Manager.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Share in the responsibility for answering telephone calls on Madison College's student phone lines. The college receives calls from students and staff regarding student payment and general account questions.
- Share in the responsibility for monitoring and responding to students and staff emails. The SF team shares in several student and staff email inboxes.
- Assist in the preparation and verification of daily deposits, prior to sending to the bank.
- Assist in the preparation and submit third party invoices to federal, state and other agencies.
- Assist in the monitoring and tracking of unclaimed property for students.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with differing timelines simultaneously to ensure deadlines are met.
- Highly motivated and possess strong intellectual abilities and math skills.
- Impeccable personal integrity and the ability to professionally handle confidential matters.
- Demonstrated skill in the use of financial information systems, enterprise resource planning software (i.e. PeopleSoft, Workday), and other software (e.g. Microsoft Excel).
- Impeccable customer service skills and ability to deal with difficult customers by being helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable to callers.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
- One (1) year of work experience directly related to the skills required for successfully performing the duties of this position.
