Position Description

At Seattle University, the Student Success Division implemented Slate for Student Success in 2023, laying the foundation for a variety of exciting and innovative plans to improve the student experience. The Assistant Director, Slate for Student Success would assist the Senior Associate Director, Slate for Student Success in leading the ongoing development of Slate for the purpose of increasing retention at Seattle University. This role would be responsible for leading the communications strategy and delivering operations oversight, ensuring that the campus can best utilize the powerful communication tools delivered through Slate. This role will also support the development of new tools and business processes designed in Slate for Student Success, documenting and training users along the way. The Assistant Director, Slate for Student Success will serve as the point person for over 200+ campus-wide Slate users and develop ongoing training plans to continue to increase user skillsets for exponential growth and optimization of the Slate for Student Success platform.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Communications Operations 30%
  • Serve as lead communications operations administrator for all outgoing current student communications in Slate for Student Success.
  • Provide strategic oversight of cross-campus communications, recommending alternative send times, revisions and user feedback when messages from different users conflict or overlap.
  • Train approved deliver users on communications optimization including how to utilize liquid markup, schedule ongoing mailings, create drip campaigns, incorporating best practices and brand standards.
  • Manage the "Ready for Review" process by validating all content, recipient lists, and sending settings for all deliver user mailings marked as "ready for review" then executing launch.
  • Maintain and continue to develop queries and reports to document communications outcomes, provide insights on open and click rates.
  • Maintain and develop new deliver templates and new deliver template queries
  • Support the Student Portal notification center and manage the approval of new bulletin post submissions.
  • Support users managing SMS inbox replies.


  • User Training & Support 30%
  • Serve as the point person for user support and troubleshooting in all established Slate for Student Success functions and business processes.
  • Develop training materials and sessions for user skill development in areas including Events, Appointments, Query building, Communications, and Forms.
  • Review requests for new users and create user accounts as advised by the Senior Associate Director, Slate for Student Success.
  • Manage changes to appointment portals and other user specific features when staff rotate or leave their position.

  • Slate Development Strategy 25%
  • Support the Senior Associate Director, Slate for Student Success in tackling the annual Slate for Student Success Roadmap, a project roadmap for new initiatives in Slate for Student Success managed by the Senior Associate Director and approved by the VP for Student Success.
  • Assist the Senior Associate Director, Slate for Student Success in managing project requests for building new business processes, workflows, forms, portals, and other functions in Slate.
  • Take lead on assigned roadmap projects, working directly with stakeholders to conduct to assess the needs, develop plans for Slate designed solutions, and facilitate implementation and training for users on these new Slate forms, processes, workflows, portals, etc.
  • Work directly with the Senior Associate Director, Slate for Student Success to make back-end system changes, when necessary, build new fields, prompts, datasets, entities, custom tabs, populations, portals, etc.


  • Documentation & System Maintenance 15%
  • Assist the Senior Associate Director, Slate for Student Success in developing and maintaining a comprehensive catalog documenting all established administrative processes and their required maintenance in Slate.
  • Support documentation of new features, new releases, and new updates made in Slate for Student Success.
  • Develop a term cycle prep document to ensure each term the system is prepared to function as intended.
  • Conduct system maintenance on a regular basis, running audits when necessary to identify any missing data or data inconsistencies.




Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education in a role that utilized an instance of Slate CRM daily.
  • Experience managing communications plans and operating communications effectively.
  • Experience conducting training in technical systems including enforcing procedures and best practices.
  • Experience taking lead on assigned projects with ability to escalate problems or decisions appropriately.
  • Strong communications skills and an ability to think critically about long-term solutions instead of short-term fixes.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Slate Captain experience, or experience working in Slate as a "super user" building queries, forms, communications, templates and portals in a leadership role.
  • Strong Data Analysis background
  • HTML, CSS or JavaScript experience
  • SQL or database management
  • Experience working with Marketing departments to manage multi-tier drip communications plans

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training.
