Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking applicants for a Faculty, Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor - Nursing.

The Nursing faculty member develops and teaches undergraduate subject areas, such as Assessment, Pharmacology, Fundamentals, Medical/Surgical, Health Promotion/Teaching, Mother/Baby, Pediatrics, Community Health, Quality/Safety, Navigating Health Systems, Nursing Research, Nursing Theory, Leadership, Global Nursing.

Teaching responsibilities include 12 credits per semester, including online, hybrid, face-to-face, and live stream modalities and evening and weekend classes.

The faculty member participates in accreditation assessment processes and engages in scholarly activities that contribute to the mission of the university, department, and profession. In addition, the faculty provides service at the department, college, and university levels.

The faculty member will uphold ethical and professional standards as well as provide an expected physical presence in the department and hold weekly office hours.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
  • Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
  • Engages in scholarly activities including applied research and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
  • Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an institution accredited by a national nursing accreditation body with a Master's degree in Nursing required. Minimum of six months post-secondary teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from an institution accredited by a national nursing accreditation body with a Doctoral degree or enrollment in a Doctoral program in Nursing or related field.
  • At least three years of related teaching, training, and/or industry experience.
  • Evidence of scholarly research.
Licenses or Certifications
Licensed as a registered nurse in Utah.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities


  • Teaching experience or expertise in at least three of the following areas is desirable: Assessment, Pharmacology, Fundamentals, Medical/Surgical, Health Promotion/Teaching, Mother/Baby, Pediatrics, Community Health, Quality/Safety, Navigating Health Systems, Nursing Research, Nursing Theory, Leadership, Global Nursing.
  • Knowledge of subject matter, trends, and course content pertinent to nursing.
  • Knowledge of online teaching environments, such as Canvas or other course management systems.
  • Interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Curriculum development skills.
  • Soft skills in maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Proficient in executing scholarly activities and contributing to service endeavors, with a teaching focus that complements the Department of Nursing.
  • Specific interest in teaching introductory courses, potentially involving collaboration with Concurrent Enrollment instructors.
  • Teaching pedagogy in a variety of delivery formats.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
  • Ability to work independently, ethically, and professionally.
  • Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved curriculum.
  • Ability to assess student work and maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports, and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance.
  • Ability to use a classroom learning management system, such as Canvas.
  • Ability to assist academic advisors, the department chairperson, and/or the program coordinators, faculty, department staff, and industry partners in maintaining effective programs.
