The Department of Biology at California State University, San Bernardino is seeking part-time lecturer applications from a diverse group of qualified individuals for both our San Bernardino Campus (SBC) as well as our Palm Desert Campus (PDC). Candidates for this position should possess good organizational and communication skills with a drive to enhance student success. This position will involve teaching laboratory, discussion, and/or lecture sections in any of our subject areas: General Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Organismal Biology, Ecology and Population Biology, or specialized topics in the discipline. Candidates must have at least a Master's degree, or specialized certification for lecture and/or activity classes, in the field of Biology or a related discipline. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students. Preference will be given to those with experience teaching in the appropriate field and in fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive learning environment. This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary and all appointments are temporary. Staffing decisions are made on a rolling basis typically beginning a few months prior to the start of an academic term right up to the beginning of the academic term. We recommend submitting your application at least 4 months before the beginning of an academic term to be considered for available positions. Workload can be as little as one course up to a maximum of 15 WTU.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in General Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, or other topics in the field of Biology and have a command of the subject matter for the course(s) that they will be teaching. Typical activities include weekly instruction and supervision of the section(s)/course(s) to which they are assigned, maintaining a safe learning environment (including observing adhering to safety guidelines, e.g. in laboratory activities), reading and evaluating student papers, homework, and other assignments, prompt recording and posting of student grades, and maintaining scheduled office hours outside of scheduled teaching times. For teaching laboratory or discussion sections for larger courses, the candidate should maintain regular communication with course coordinators, attend course team meetings, return graded work promptly, record grades regularly as appropriate for the course (e.g. in Canvas), and return final section grades by the last day of final exams. Candidates should respond to course or departmental-related emails within 48 hours.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued. Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at the program level is preferred and should be noted in application.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Biology has 15 tenure-track/tenured faculty with a variety of research interests, as well as lecturers and technicians who provide pivotal support. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The department has facilities for microscopy, 3D printing, cell culture and stem cell research, animal care, and plant growth.
