Primary Purpose of Position:
The Associate Budget Director will work collaboratively with the Director of Budget & Financial Planning to provide budgeting and accounting expertise in assessing the strategic deployment of resources and budgetary allocation transactions. this position will have significant responsibility for the development, implementation and monitoring of a sound fiscal plan in alignment with the university's strategic objectives, and for continuous improvement of the processes and services within the Office of Budgets & Financial Planning to support and enhance the fiscal stability of the university.The Associate Budget Director will have authority to act on behalf of the Director of Budget & Financial Planning in their absence, and serves as the primary deputy for budgetary oversight for the University. This position must be committed to effective communication with administration, faculty, staff, and students and understand the varying perspectives of the University's community members.
Minimum Education/Experience:
Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Public Administration, or a closely related field, or Bachelor's with equivalent experience.
Preferred Experience:
At least five years of progressive related experience, one of which must have been supervisory in nature.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to administer financial processes and systems. Demonstrated ability to prepare fiscal reports and analyses of financial statements and budget allocations.
- Ability to interpret statutes, analyze, evaluate, and summarize financial and management records for accuracy and conformance to procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to identify problems and changing requirements regarding management needs, auditing, fiscal procedures, account structures or reports, and accounting systems.
- Experience working with integrated financial software, financial implementation and conversion initiatives, knowledge of BANNER, PeopleAdmin, IBIS, CMCS and related technologies.
- Highly accurate with financial data, adept at interpreting state fiscal regulations, and skilled in financial analysis. Proficient in preparing detailed accounting reports with strong knowledge of accounting and budgetary principles.
- Skilled in resolving complex, unprecedented issues and serving as a key resource for guidance, providing strategic recommendations for management decision-making
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Prior higher education and/or state/local government budget experience is preferred
