Reporting to the Dean of the Library and Learning Commons (LLC), the Associate Director of the Library and Learning Commons serves as a member of the LLC leadership team and ensures the effective delivery of all access services. The Associate Director provides leadership for all aspects of access services, including the supervision of the front-desk team.
The Associate Director's responsibilities include developing policies and procedures related to circulation, equipment use, and space use; recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising both full-time and part-time library assistants, overseeing that coverage needs for the front desk at all hours when the library is open; providing professional development opportunities for the library assistants; and overseeing the budgetary needs of the front desk.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership for the library's front desk, including patron assistance and circulation duties.
- Hire, train, and provide direct supervision to all full-time and part-time library assistants.
- Hire, train, and provide direct supervision all student workers.
- Manage the front desk schedule so there is two-person coverage at all hours when the library is open.
- Oversee outreach, including social media, for LLC services, events, and resources.
- Oversee programming and outreach to highlight the library's collections, including displays.
- Oversee circulation, including patron records, reserves, and network interlibrary loan.
- Oversee the study spaces in the library, including study rooms, and manage any issues with study room bookings.
- Identify and develop professional development opportunities for library assistants.
- Represent Bunker Hill Community College in the NOBLE library consortium's access services meetings.
- Create policies and procedures for circulation, equipment use, and space use that align with best practices in the field and contribute to an inclusive and welcoming patron experience.
- Conduct regular needs assessment to establish and grow a Library of Things to best meet patron needs.
- Provide supervision to the Library and Learning Commons staff when the Dean of the Library, Learning Commons, and TASC is unavailable.
Job Requirements:
- MLIS degree and at least three (3) years of full-time experience in an access services position, preferably at an academic library.
- Experience supervising library staff.
- Experience supervising library front-desk operations.
- Effective written and interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $97,000.00-$102,000.00 Non-Unit Professional position. Full State Benefits. Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate With Education and Experience.
