Assistant Director, Residential Education

Requirements

The Assistant Director, as a member of the Residential Living Director staff, provides direct supervision to four masters-level professional Community Directors and indirect supervision up to 35 resident assistants in a residential area focused on upper-class residential students. Addressing student and parent concerns through proactive problem solving, additional responsiblities include, but are not limited to:
  • In partnership with their staff, oversee the educational and community development efforts of their residential areas while providing leadership by setting goals, partnering with staff and community stakeholders in the promotion of student formation and advancing the mission of Residential Living.
  • Support the safety net functions of Residential Living, encouraging community ownership by administering the Code of Student Conduct.
  • Chair one departmental committee, overseeing the RA Recruitment and Selection program.


Work Interactions

The Assistant Director, as an active member of the Office of Residential Living director team, is primarily responsible for administering the residential program for one residential area housing up to 2,500 residents. Assistant Directors may supervise up to 5 Professional Staff members and indirectly supervise 35 student staff members working in the residence halls. The Assistant Director reports to an Associate Director in Residential Education.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree; Master's degree preferred
  • 3-5 years full-time Residence Life experience
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal, crisis management, and managerial skills with the ability to work with a diverse staff and community development
  • Significant experience managing and leading the formation of Living Learning Communities in residential settings
  • Knowledge of higher education, learning and student development theory, and student affairs is important
  • Commitment to the ideals of community and the integration of academic and student affairs is essential

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
