Eastern Washington Universitys Chicana/o/x Studies Program (CHST), within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, invites applications for a 12-month, 100% Coordinator/Recruiter for its Chicana/o/x Studies Program. While this position focuses on recruiting and retention of Chicana/o/x - Latina/o/x students, it also focuses on recruiting and retaining diverse students to the University overall, as well as within the College and its specific programs. Three primary areas of responsibility for this position include: recruiting new students, providing counseling and advising services which promote retention, and assisting with the variety of operational, administrative and outreach responsibilities of the program. Additional responsibilities include: provide academic support services, serve as an advocate for students, function as a key member of the Program staff, represent their individual program at various functions and events, and exercise a high degree of independent judgment, confidentiality and decision making. This position will develop and continuously improve how their program and the College works with students to enhance student satisfaction, student persistence and retention, and ultimately the whole student experience. Responsibilities related to seeking grants and other sources of external funding in collaboration with the Program Director, as well as fulfilling grant obligations, may be assigned. Participation in providing training and facilitating workshops should be expected.
This position is also expected to support the universitys overall recruitment and retention efforts and assist in advising and support of Chicana/o/x Studies. In the course of performing the positions duties, this position will have extensive involvement with students, staff and the public in carrying out program activities, and will coordinate, schedule and monitor program activities to determine consistency with program goals.

This position requires some travel, primarily in-state, which may involve overnight trips. The individual hired for this position must be flexible with work assignments and hours, and may be required to work some evenings and weekends to fulfill position responsibilities.

The salary for this position is $51,291 (minimum) up to $61,554. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement. Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Professional experience in education; in work with underrepresented populations; in minority affairs, minority achievement, retention, college preparatory programs, recruitment, and student advising; or other relevant experience.
- Computer skills that include Microsoft Office and other applications and technologies necessary for data access/retrieval and communications; experience with Excel spreadsheets and accessing data via information systems or databases is required
- An understanding the identified student populations experiences, traditions and cultures, and the ability to work with racially, ethnically and economically diverse populations, including first-generation students and historically underrepresented student populations
- Ability to work with and engage faculty, staff, and administrators who have a wide range of understanding and skill in working with the identified student population, the student populations families, and the student populations communities
- A student-centered focus and a strong sense of responsibility for student success
- A high degree of organization and strong prioritization, time management, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner both orally and in writing

- Required knowledge and skills in at least three of the following areas:
- Knowledge of the high school to college transition
- Ability to generate ideas for new and modified first-year student transition and retention programs.
- Ability to skillfully work with and engage campus constituents with a wide range of understanding in working with disadvantaged or underrepresented college and/or high school students and their families (the position will have contact with faculty, staff, and administrators)
- Ability to partner with campus service units to share information and encourage dialogue that improves awareness of issues affecting the identified student population
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of EWUs students, faculty, staff, and broader campus community.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who offer one or more of the following preferred qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Hispanic, Latinx, and/or Chicana/o/x Studies or a relevant academic field, including disciplines in the social sciences and humanities, or related fields such as Chicana/o/x Latinx Studies, Counseling, Student Affairs, or Education.
- Masters degree
- Three years full-time relevant experience, such as working in education in a disadvantaged or underrepresented college and/or high school; work experience in minority affairs, minority achievement, retention, college preparatory programs, recruitment, and student advising; or other relevant experience.
- Teaching experience or a history of planning, designing, developing, and implementing presentations and workshops
- Work experience with students or families from Hispanic, Latinx and/or Chicana/o/x descent.
- Direct experience working with, developing, or coordinating retention initiatives or related work
- Direct experience or familiarity with grant writing

Job Duties:
Recruitment and Student Engagement
- Plan, coordinate, and implement recruitment strategies that attract students from the identified student population to EWU.
- Schedule and complete recruitment visits to high schools, community colleges, regional and national fairs, and other similar locations
- Use the constituent relationship management (CRM) system, Navigate system, email, texting, student information systems, and other EWU technologies to track enrollment activity and regularly deliver personalized and timely communications to future and current students
- Work with the position supervisor and EWUs enrollment leaders to develop and budget for outreach and recruitment management plans that create and maintain strong relationships with students, families, school personnel, and community based organizations
- Plan and host on-campus events that support recruitment and retention initiatives, and participate in and plan similar off-campus events as appropriate
- Partner with the position supervisor, alumni, faculty, and campus stakeholders to develop and deploy strategies, events and programs for accomplishing short-term and long-term goals and objectives related to early outreach, recruitment, and student success
- Develop procedures and approaches for providing individualized and group advising, mentoring, and coaching
- Develop in-depth knowledge of EWU and off-campus resources that support students, and share that knowledge with future and current students and stakeholders
- Serve as a campus expert on issues related to the recruitment and retention of students from the identified student population, and use that expertise to help support recruitment and retention initiatives in units both inside and outside of Admissions
- Assist Chicana/o/x and Latinx Studies faculty in supporting Chicana/o/x and Latinx minor, including coordination of the units programs and events
- Represent EWU and increase the visibility of EWU through professional contributions such conference presentations, organizational membership, leadership roles in organizations serving marginalized communities, or participation in appropriate local and regional events and conferences
- Complete additional duties as assigned
Administrative Activities
- Analyze recruitment and activities and student engagement strategies, and use that analysis to produce reports, make recommendations for improvement, and periodically project enrollments
- Stay up-to-date with best practices on key issues in higher education and in serving students from the identified student population; share those best practices with the EWU community as appropriate
- Assess and evaluate outreach and student engagement programs, projects, and proposals; develop reports and proposals to enhance outreach and engagement programs
- Complete and support fulfillment of any grant and philanthropic opportunities and requirements, as appropriate
- Analyze yearly recruitment and student engagement activity and use data to plan recruitment strategies for future years
- Support budgeting activities and tracking, including making recommendations for budget and monitoring expenditures
- Advise and assist the Director of Admissions and others, as appropriate, on matters relating to issues and concerns of students; advise student organizations, as appropriate
- Contribute to or assist with quarterly newsletter, correspondence, website, articles, news releases, public service announcements, brochures, fliers, and other marketing and communication materials.
- Develop training opportunities which foster faculty and staff understanding of the identified student populations lived experience and which enable faculty and staff to improve learning and experiences for the identified student population
- Maintain technological skills necessary for file review, admissions processing, and strategic enrollment management
- Hire, train, and supervise student employees, and advise student clubs as appropriate
