This position performs its duties on both the Kentfield campus and the Indian Valley Campus in Novato, so if not already residing within the Bay Area, the successful candidate must be willing to relocate.

Position Overview
The job of Maintenance Electrician is done for the purpose/s of maintaining the safe and uninterrupted operation of various electrical systems and their components; planning and implementing alterations to existing systems; and planning and installing new systems as required.
Essential Functions
- Analyzes drawings for the purpose of identifying location of current electrical systems to determine future installations of additional systems, components and/or modifications.
- Analyzes work orders and proposed projects for the purpose of determining the feasibility and estimating costs.
- Coordinates with Maintenance Supervisor, outside contractors and/or employees, estimators, suppliers, etc., and other trades to complete projects/work orders efficiently.
- Installs and/or modifies electrical systems (e.g. building infrastructure, exterior, motor/control, clock, security, fire alarm, energy management, etc.) for the purpose of providing updated, enhanced and/or upgraded electrical capabilities.
- Prepares written documentation to record and/or convey information.
- Reports orally to Maintenance Supervisor on specific projects or problems.
- Responds to emergency situations in order to resolve immediate safety concerns.
- Specifies, orders and procures supplies, materials, tools and equipment to ensure availability of required items and to complete the job efficiently.
- Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) to ensure availability of materials required at job site.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and/or replaces component parts (e.g. wiring, conduit, controls, devices, circuit breakers, ballasts, etc.) of various electrical systems, electrical equipment and electrical tools.
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
1. Graduation from high school or equivalent
2. Job related experience
Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements:
1. Journey level electrician certification
2. A valid California driver's license; and
3. A demonstrated commitment to equity-minded practices in support of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, college staff, and community members.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
SKILLS are required to perform single technical tasks with an occasional need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in electrical maintenance; adhering to safety practices. Use of new or additional equipment brought about by new technology shall be incorporated consistent with the level of responsibility and complexity of this job.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical documents (e.g., blueprints, technical manuals, etc.); and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: tools and equipment used in the maintenance of electrical systems; general safety practices, procedures and National Electrical Code.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and coordinate a number of factors in the use of equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others under a variety of circumstances; analyze data; and operate equipment using various methods of operation. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of similar types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues, create plans of action and reach solutions; with data it is moderate; and with equipment it is significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with persons of varied backgrounds; working as part of a team; and establishing and maintaining working relationships. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and learning styles of community college students and staff are also required.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:
- In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance.
- California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.
- DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the MCCD requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. RESPONSIBILITY
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision focusing primarily on results; providing information and/or advising other persons; and operating within a defined budget and/or financial guidelines. Utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the Organization's services.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting up to 60 pounds, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; significant climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; significant reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling. Generally the job requires 24% sitting, 37% walking and 39% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes, some hazardous conditions (e.g. mechanical, cuts, burns, infectious disease, high decibel noise, etc.), and in varying atmospheric conditions.
SALARY INFORMATION
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Salary Range: SEIU 720-3
Starting Salary Range: $41.28 per hour, depending on education and experience.

CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY & RETIREMENT PLAN
The Maintenance Electrician is a classified position represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), in compliance with all applicable sections of the California Education Code and related statutes.
Employees in classifications represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1021 and are required to comply fully with the SEIU/Marin Community College District (MCCD) Collective Bargaining Agreement. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. SEIU employees are also members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), to which the member contributes up to 8% of their reportable compensation on a monthly basis.
SELECTION PROCESS

SEIU Full-time Employees:

Life Insurance - $50,000, with the option to purchase additional voluntary life insurance for the Lesser of 5x base annual salary or $500,000
