Under the direction of the Dean of the General Education Pathway, or designee, to develop and teach concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. Will require teaching courses in-person at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, and/or online during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Related duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non-traditional formats.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom/laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Educational Requirements:
- Must have a master's degree or higher n English, OR;
- Master's degree or higher in a related discipline (which may include but is not limited to communications, comparative literature, language arts, writing, journalism, speech, reading, theater arts, or liberal studies) with at least 18 GRADUATE level credits in English studies: Literature, Composition and Rhetoric, Writing, and/or Creative Writing). A concentration in reading and writing is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications in ADDITION to the Required Minimums:
- Verifiable occupational work experience in a field other than education
- Previous teaching experience at post secondary or college-level
- Bilingual Spanish/English fluency

- Blackboard Ultra - Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems
- Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
- Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking applications)
Supplemental Information
Start Date: This position supports the General Education Pathway we are currently recruiting for our Spring 2025 semester.
Hours: This part-time pool position and will require teaching courses at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, and/or online during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Hours, location, and modality are based on enrollment and departmental need.
Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin, performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.
Salary: Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.
