Job Description
The University of Hartford's Barney School of Business seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure track position to start in August 2025.
Essential Job Duties
The successful candidate for the Assistant Professor of Business Law position will teach three courses per semester including various courses in business law and an introductory business course. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program. The course load will represent a combination of both graduate and undergraduate courses and teaching should advance intercultural competence in all students.
Many graduate courses are offered online as well as face-to-face and faculty should be prepared to teach in both modalities. Candidates should show a willingness and ability to employ technology in teaching.
The Assistant Professor will also engage in scholarly research in law including publication of peer-reviewed articles, scholarly books or book chapters, case studies, and/or textbooks, presentations at academic meetings, and involvement in academic associations, to permit the attainment of classification as a Scholarly Academic under AACSB-International accreditation standards and for successful tenure and promotion.
Applicants should describe how their research and/or teaching will contribute to diverse communities. In addition to teaching and scholarly activities, faculty are expected to participate in Departmental, School, and University service among diverse populations; and interact with the greater Hartford region's business community.
Required Qualifications
Required:
- Applicants must have graduated from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Candidates must hold an LL.M. or J.D.
- Demonstrate active membership in good standing in a state bar.
- Demonstrate a commitment to diverse student populations, as well an ability to teach, mentor, and work with diverse students.
Additional Qualifications (Not required):
Ideal candidates will:
- have prior teaching experience in law including college-level teaching, online teaching, and/or teaching in an organizational training setting
- have experience and/or interests in teaching a variety of business law courses
- have developed or express interest in developing course material in law.
- demonstrate scholarly focus and trajectory
- demonstrate interest in participating in professional activities
- willingness to provide service to the department, college, and university
- demonstrate substantial business or professional experience.
- Additionally, accounting or tax experience is preferred.
Note: These credentials are preferred and will be considered after all minimum requirements are met.
