Job Summary:
100% inpatient diabetes/glucose management with the option to substitute 1-2 half day sessions of clinic after at least 1 year of full-time inpatient diabetes/glucose management.
Inpatient glucose management will consist of up to 10 half-day sessions per week or four 10-hour days including up to 2 weekends a month on the Glucose Management Team at the University of Colorado Hospital (main campus); this may vary depending on how much time is dedicated to outpatient diabetes and endocrinology work and the needs of the team.
Successful candidates will be responsible for interfacing with the Endocrinology consult team and working as a collaborative team member on the Glucose Management Team in order to provide direct patient care, clinical follow-up, lab review and other duties primarily in the inpatient but also the outpatient environments. Knowledge of intensive diabetes management (including multiple daily insulin injections, insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring, noninsulin therapies, and medical nutrition therapy) will be required in this position. Candidates may also be interested in learning and gaining experience in the evaluation and management of common endocrine disorders, predominately thyroid disease and osteoporosis, but this is not required for this position.
The inpatient Glucose Management Team duties will occur at the Anschutz Medical Campus University of Colorado Hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs comprehensive health assessment, including health history, physical exams, preventive screening and identifies medical health risks and needs for patients on the inpatient glucose management consult service.
- Performs, orders and/or interprets diagnostic studies within scope of practice and clinical area of practice.
- Develops diabetes care plan and reassesses and modifies plan as necessary.
- Serves as a clinical consultant to other clinical services in the hospital
- Collaborates with all members of the multidisciplinary services and units in the hospital to deliver excellent care
- Participates in self-directed continued learning
- Educates patients and families regarding management of health condition outside the hospital setting
- Successful candidates are expected to participate in education and scholarly activity such as quality improvement and protocol development in addition to clinical responsibilities, as part of the academic faculty.
- Maintains CME credits as required for continued licensure.
Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Previous experience in the field of Diabetology as a physician's assistant, nurse, nurse practitioner (NP), clinical nurse specialist (CNS), or certified diabetes care and education specialist (CDCES) (for APP applicants only).
- Knowledge of intensive diabetes management (including multiple daily insulin injections, insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring, noninsulin therapies, and medical nutrition therapy) will be required in this position (all levels).
- Prior fellowship training in Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes, or in Diabetology (for MD/DOs only).

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Instructor:
- Certified PA or NP or CNS from an accredited program with prescriptive authority.
- Must be board certified by a national professional PA or nursing organization.
Assistant Professor:
- MD/DO board certified or eligible in Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes, or in Diabetology
Preferred Qualifications:
- Applicants should be enthusiastic about a career in academic medicine with a strong interest in providing excellent clinical care in the outpatient and inpatient setting. There should be a desire for teaching and writing and an interest in opportunities in quality improvement and/or clinical research.
- Bilingual: English and Spanish
- APRN diploma/certificate with prescriptive authority from an accredited post-basic nursing master's level nursing practitioner or CNS program with at least 1 year of diabetes and/or endocrinology clinical experience. (for APP Instructors)
- Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine or Medicine/Pediatrics (for MD/DO Assistant Professors)
- At least 1 year of diabetes and/or endocrinology clinical experience (MD/DO Assistant Professors).

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:
APP Instructor $109,000 - $123,000
Assistant Prof MD $156,000 - $180,000
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
