Description of Position:
Adjunct evening position as a hands-on welding instructor.
Los Medanos College is expanding its teaching pool of part-time faculty to teach a hands-on lab course in Welding Technology.Duties involve teaching students how to perform SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, PAC, and OFC processes on plate, sheetmetal and pipe. The opportunity is only for evening instruction from 6:25pm to 9:30pm on Wednesdays & Thursdays.-Preparation and grading of course assignments, projects and examinations.-Maintenance of student's attendance and grades, submitting them according to published deadlines.-Participation in program activities, including curriculum evaluations and development.-Participation in faculty meetings, advisory committees and student activities.Teaching assignment will begin in January 2025.Oral interview will be conducted to include a welding demonstration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.
EDUCATION:
An Associate's Degree AND six years professional work experience OR a Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge, hands-on experience and certifications in the FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW welding processes. AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and instruction experience in welding. Ability to instruct, mentor, an assist a diverse student population. Have an enthusiastic attitude toward learning. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and able to lift 50lbs. Knowledge and experience with AWS codes and standards, directing welder qualification tests, welding inspection, Microsoft Office and email.
