Job Summary:
  • Eastern Washington University is currently recruiting for an Electrician Lead. The primary function of this position is the day to day directing, coordination and scheduling of the electrical shop personnel and projects. The Lead may also perform journey level electrical installation and maintenance work. The position reports to and is supervised by the Maintenance Specialist 4.
  • The salary for this position is $72,588 (minimum) up to $84,168. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Drivers license
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as journey status as an electrician in a union; or applicable work experience.
  • Washington State Journeyperson EL01
  • Experience in electrical maintenance work to include frequency drives, soft starts, lighting controls, fire alarm systems.
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in institutional electrical maintenance
  • Completion of recognized apprenticeship or trade school program as an electrician
  • High voltage experience to include writing switching procedures and clearances.

Job Duties:
Distribution of work orders, shop mail, and work assignments for the electrical shop personnel. Monitor and document work and service orders regarding completion.Percent of Time: 20

Perform journey level electrical installation & maintenance. Assist with high voltage electrical work. Coordinate and schedule fire alarm and elevator testing and maintenance. Prepare estimates and pricing for materials and equipment required for daily operations. Contact vendors for information and generate materials and equipment requests. Coordinate work with other campus shops regarding service and renovation projects. Work with supervisors regarding timelines and completion dates for projects and daily work.Percent of Time: 50

Represent shop, department and university in a professional manner during all interactions with the campus community (students, staff, faculty and other trades). Assist in resolution of shop related problems and issues. Monitor the adherence of the electrical shop employees in regard to University policy and procedures. Coordinate safety training within the electrical shop. Coordinate required training or elective opportunities. Prepare and evaluate employee performance evaluations and other conduct or employee issues. Keep supervisor aware of safety issues and potential maintenance issues.Percent of Time: 20

Assist in organization and storage of materials, documentation, shop layout and other information. Pick up materials from vendors. Present ideas on operational issues that may enhance the performance of the shop and department. Perform related duties as directed.Percent of Time: 10
Conditions of Employment:
  • During the course of university employment this position will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
  • All new employees will comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
  • All new faculty and staff are required to complete DEI/Title IX/Hazing Training after their hire date. This should be completed no later than the first few weeks after hire.
