Web Content Manager, Institute for Soft Matter Synthesis and Metrology - NIST PREP

Requirements

The Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) is partnership between Georgetown University and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). It is designed to provide valuable laboratory experience and financial assistance to graduate students, postdocs, and faculty. The program is intended to assure continued growth and progress of science and engineering in the United States.

The Web Content Manager assists the NIST Material Measurement Laboratory (MML) Lab Office with scientific communications in the core areas of chemistry, biology, and materials science. This role will involve the development of web content, website maintenance, and analytics review. The PREP program requires staff from a wide range of backgrounds to work on scientific research in many areas. Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Update content on the external and internal MML webpages using the Drupal content management system.
  • Develop visualization tools and reporting schemes that represent web analytics for the organization and inform decision making.
  • Develop web content, website maintenance, and analytics review, editing, redesigning, updating, and posting content.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify web development needs, editing and proofreading content.
  • Fix broken links and other errors, updating taxonomy and other metadata tags.
  • Ensure content is 508 compliant and create new resources and training materials.
  • Identify visualization tools to represent Google Analytics metrics and prepare reports.


Work Interactions

This position will interact as part of the NIST/GU PREP team, and will be jointly supervised and managed by a GU scientist (typically the Georgetown Director of the GU/PREP program) and a NIST scientist. In most cases the technical work will be carried out at NIST, but in other cases the work will be carried out at Georgetown. The position will also interact with other scientists on the specific project. The overall goal of the position is to support and enhance the NIST/PREP program, which promotes scientific training in research for researchers with a wide spectrum of backgrounds and expertise (including students, post-doctoral researchers, and senior research faculty, in addition to this specific position).

Requirement and Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or materials science or a related discipline
  • Familiarity with website content management systems and basic principles of web usability
  • Familiarity with the Google Analytics platform
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Course work or experience in communications, technical communications, or science writing is preferred

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$41,926.00 - $65,090.00

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
