The University of Baltimore (UBalt) is seeking an innovative Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs (APFA) to join its senior academic affairs leadership team and play a major role in fulfilling the institution's specialized mission of providing quality, professional undergraduate and graduate education. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, this individual works in close collaboration with deans, faculty members, and University leadership in ways that are consistent with the inclusive and collaborative culture of UBalt. The APFA's role includes leadership and oversight of academic policy development and implementation, of faculty affairs, and of University-wide administrative policy creation and implementation. Candidates should have experience with writing, developing and implementing policy, and have a record of building consensus, strong skills in partnership and collaboration with other campus units.

The Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs will serve as a member of the Provost's leadership team to implement the academic mission of the University and to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and accreditation requirements. The person will provide leadership and oversight to academic policy development and implementation, faculty affairs and shared governance work with faculty, and creation and implementation of University-wide administrative policy, with collaboration across the institution required to ensure that appropriate follow-through has taken place. This position will manage the promotion and tenure (P&T) and sabbatical processes. The associate provost will also share in responsibilities of the office with respect to documentation to assist faculty and students, including such things as web pages, handbooks, messages around services, and other communications. They will engage in functional relationships with Office of the Provost staff, deans, associate deans, directors, centers' staff, as well as other University divisions, MHEC, USM, and the Office of the Attorney General. This role convenes students and faculty for specific purposes and represents those positions to the Provost with recommendations for next steps.

Key responsibilities

Provide collaborative leadership with the colleges/schools and other divisions with respect to shared governance, academic policies and procedures; respond to MHEC, USM, and MSCHE with respect to questions and reporting involving academic policy and faculty affairs. Co-lead University administrative policy and compliance initiatives, including the updating of administrative policies with review by the Office of the Attorney General as appropriate. Play major role in development of the Academic Affairs Academic and Strategic Plan.

Represent the Office of the Provost with the Office of the Attorney General in most matters (policy, faculty affairs, most MOUs). Research and write University reports for external parties (e.g., MHEC, USM, MSCHE, General Assembly), University communications, briefing documents, grants, and other documents as needed. Provide oversight of administrative systems' use within academic affairs (e.g., Digital Measures; and serve on ASM Governance Committee for provost).

Coordinate the promotion and tenure and sabbatical processes. Prepare and conduct faculty disciplinary cases for academic affairs, as needed. Oversee update of the Faculty Handbook, Adjunct Handbook, and Graduate Assistant Handbook; coordinate "meet and Confer" with adjunct faculty and graduate assistants; serve as the provost's representative (e.g., to the Faculty Work-Life Committee) and leading policy related to faculty affairs.

Serve as a Provost's representative on committees, as assigned. Have signature authority in the absence of the SVP and Provost. Coordinate specific academic initiatives (e.g., prior learning expansion) and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
Education: Applied or Research Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution or the equivalent.
Experience: Seven years of progressively responsible roles in a university setting leading University and academic initiatives.

Preferred Education and Experience
Education: Ph.D. / ED.D.
Experience: Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of progressive administrative leadership at public universities.
