Job Summary:
The University of San Francisco School of Law is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Director or Director of J.D. Admissions. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Admissions, the Senior Director or Director of J.D. Admissions leads an ambitious, creative team that is goal and metric driven.

The Senior Director or Director is responsible for the day to day operations of Admissions, ensuring implementation of the vision and strategy of Admissions for the purpose of achieving enrollment goals. The Senior Director or Director of J.D. Admissions participates in developing recruitment strategies, counseling prospective students, and working with the Admissions Committee and staff to admit and yield the incoming class. The Senior Director or Director of J.D. Admissions represents the law school at recruitment fairs and forums and is an active participant in the national Law School Admission Council organization.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Support the Assistant Dean of Admissions in developing and executing annual recruitment strategies and goals. Strategic planning includes operational planning with the admissions team, marketing and communications, interview strategies, recruitment and event strategies, and more.
  • Recruit and counsel applicants, students, parents, alumni, university administrators and others on matters relating to the J.D. programs, policies, and admissions, including general financial aid matters and law school scholarships, as needed.
  • Develop and manage the application review process to ensure timely file review and decision-making. Review applications for admissions; draft admissions correspondence to include marketing communications, applicant correspondence, and decision notifications; and award scholarships; and manage scholarship negotiation requests.
  • Manage the Visitor and Transfer application processes.
  • Oversee the Academic Support Program admissions process.
  • Oversee the Admissions Committee and partner with the Faculty Chair to ensure that committee members are familiar with processes, timelines, and general admissions goals for the cycle. In addition, ensure there is substantial training regarding best practices in file review, understanding of indicators of soft skills and evaluation of applicants who may not traditionally fall within the School of Law's indicators. Serve as a member of the Admissions Committee.
  • Provide regular reports to the Assistant Dean of Admissions on enrollment funnel. Implement strategic use of the customer relationship management (CRM) system.
  • Supervise J.D. Admissions team members, ensuring accountability, equity, training, professional development, and effective implementation of policies, procedures, systems, platforms and databases.
  • Manage the J.D. Admissions Office budget, report variances to the Assistant Dean of Admissions, and participate in budget planning.
  • Analyze reports, identify trends, develop projections, and respond and report appropriately. Analyze data and create reports needed to effectively develop and manage admissions strategies.
  • Along with the Assistant Dean of Admissions, create and execute yearly admissions recruitment and yield event calendars. Oversee recruitment event staffing and all yield events.
  • Represent the law school at local, national and international conferences, events, and programs. Collaborate with various law school departments to effectively represent the law school to legal employers, alumni, and other stakeholders.
  • Forge and maintain relationships with pre-law advisors, college professors, and other constituents who may refer prospective students to the law school.
  • Oversee management of the admissions web and social media content, and assist with the development of promotional and recruiting materials, and other communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Understanding of and commitment to USF's mission, vision, and values. Must possess a strong equity lens, cultural humility and a proven ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty and staff.
  • Bachelor's degree required with significant work experience in recruiting or admissions or JD from an ABA accredited law school preferred with progressively responsible experience in law practice or higher education. Senior Director candidates will have prior experience as a Director of JD Admissions or a comparable position.
  • Experience in recruiting and marketing and knowledge of the local and national legal markets.
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and developing staff.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple priorities and constituents; ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; experience editing and creating marketing and social media content.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills especially in the areas of collaboration, conflict resolution, problem solving, and decision making.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software programs) is required. Familiarity with the Unite database required. Familiarity with SLATE preferred.
  • Ability to travel (up to 50% of the time), and to consistently participate in evening and weekend recruiting and other events.
  • This is a hybrid role with work in-person four days per week at the Hilltop Campus of the University of San Francisco School of Law.

$115,000 - $125,000 annualized; commensurate with experience
