About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY:

The Equal Opportunity Investigator is primarily responsible for the prompt, impartial and thorough investigations of allegations of discrimination policy violations, including discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, genetics, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, veteran or disability status from faculty, staff, and/or students.

Ability to work weekends and evenings and travel (when necessary).

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

1) Investigations
  • Responsible for collecting the relevant facts related to the reported allegations of discrimination, including Title IX incidents, and in collaboration with the Assistant Vice President/Title IX Coordinator, assess the steps necessary to protect the health and well-being of the impacted student and the safety of the community.
  • Performs a thorough and well-documented investigative process by gathering and documenting evidentiary material.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of investigatory processes.
  • Develops comprehensive, unbiased written reports for the Assistant Vice President/Title IX Coordinator and adjudication panels.
  • Analyzes and reaches logical conclusions.
  • Acts as a neutral party through all aspects of an investigation and provides a fair process for all parties involved.
  • Ensures that communications with all parties are timely.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality with regard to all office and investigation proceedings.


2) Education & Training
  • Keeps apprised of new developments and best practices in the fields of discrimination and Title IX investigations, the Clery Act, and other relevant federal and state legislation and regulations.
  • Develops, plans, and facilitates training and educational programs for faculty, staff, and students regarding the University's Title IX policies, processes, and procedures including all orientation programming.


3) Other duties as assigned

Additional duties and projects as assigned by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The employee will have demonstrated experience conducting investigations, managing confidential information, conducting trainings, and independently and efficiently managing a significant caseload.
  • Background and training in conducting sensitive and confidential investigations is required. Knowledge of the federal and state laws pertaining to discrimination and harassment as they apply to colleges and universities.
  • Tact, maturity, and strong interpersonal, verbal, and written skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, superior judgment, and neutrality in highly sensitive situations involving investigations of alleged discrimination, including, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking and relationship or domestic violence.
  • Experience in and awareness of the sensitivity required when interacting with and addressing the needs of a diverse community on sensitive issues.
  • Knowledge and skills required for this position are typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Law Enforcement, Criminology, Social Work, Psychology, or related field required.
  • Advanced degree in related fields preferred such as J.D.
  • Three to five years relevant work experience including at least two years of recent, substantive work experience with Title IX investigations or conducting investigations in a higher education setting.

Expected Hiring Range:
$65,360.00 - $92,322.50

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
