Position Summary

Join our dynamic team as the Assistant Coordinator for the Office of Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) Affairs, where you'll play a pivotal role in supporting and leading initiatives that enhance the student experience, particularly for Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) students. Reporting to the Executive Director of AANAPISI Affairs, you'll support the operational and programmatic needs of the Office of AANAPISI, including the APIDA Center.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Support: Assist with practices and programs aimed at improving student outreach, academic success, leadership and professional development, graduation and retention, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Advising and Mentoring: Provide guidance and support to students, helping them navigate their academic and personal journeys.
  • Program Development: Develop and implement programs that foster a supportive and inclusive environment for APIDA students.
  • Marketing and Outreach: Promote the Office of AANAPISI Affairs and its programs through various marketing and outreach efforts.
  • Issue Response: Address and respond to sensitive issues, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all students.
  • Administrative Tasks: Handle various administrative duties to support the smooth operation of the office.
  • Resource Role: Serve as a valuable resource to students, faculty, and staff, contributing to a collaborative and supportive community.

Position Information
  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment.
  • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advance notice.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is responsible for the coordination and development of student services and building the inclusive excellence of SDSU's staff and faculty at San Diego State University. Departments include, but not limited to, Assistant Deans for Student Affairs; Career Services; Communications Services; Counseling & Psychological Services; Cultural and Identity Centers; Center for Educational Opportunity Programs, Outreach and Success; Financial Aid and Scholarships; Military Veterans Program; New Student and Parent Programs; Office of the Student Ombudsman; Residential Education; Resource Management; Student Disability Services; Student Health Services; Student Life and Leadership; Student Rights and Responsibilities; Testing Services Office; Well-being & Health Promotion; and programming related to Inclusive Excellence.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

  • Knowledge and experience working with APIDA students.
  • Ability to interact professionally, effectively, and collaboratively with various constituencies by demonstrating effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and follow through on projects with minimal direction.
  • Ability to accept feedback and take directions well.
  • Possession of commitment to punctuality, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Documented experience developing and coordinating programs, training, workshops, and events.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,150 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,150 - $5,076 per month.
