The Program Manager - Advisement Training/Assessment performs both leadership and specialist roles to support the work of the Office of University Advising, including, but not limited to, operations, project management, quality control, strategic planning, communication, and collaboration with stakeholders. This role involves collaboration across divisions with institutional stakeholders to identify key requirements and optimize systems, processes, and technologies related to academic advising at UVU.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Manages the advisor certification program and generates regular reports and analysis regarding advisor training and certification metrics. Collaboratively identifies training needs and curriculum for academic advisors/counselors and advising administrators. Plans and executes a training schedule each semester designed to meet the training needs of academic advisors/counselors and advising administrators. Coordinates effective training development and delivery through both online and in-person delivery methods. Plans and executes the annual UVU Advisement Conference.
- Analyzes the needs and manages the development, maintenance, and/or purchase of technology solutions for the UVU advisement program. Develops training content and delivers/facilitates online and in-person training and development sessions for academic, support, specialty, and career advisors/counselors. Selects and develops teaching aids such as manuals, handbooks, demonstration tools, multimedia visual aids, and computer tutorials.
- Manages and conducts assessment of academic advising practice and organization. Provides analysis to assist in determining effectiveness of advising practice at the college/school/unit and institutional levels, including the tracking of day-to-day metrics. Presents data to various stakeholders and coordinates the development of advisement data dashboards to assist institutional advising leadership with strategy and decision making. Stays abreast of academic advising research and best practices and represents UVU by regularly attending and presenting at professional conferences related to the position duties and assignments.
- Collaborates and maintains positive relationships with other campus departments. Investigates campus data sources to identify potential student outreach opportunities for advisors and provides advisors and advising administrators the information needed to follow through on outreach campaigns. Assists and guides advisors and advising administrators in the development and execution of effective outreach campaigns.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a directly related field of study and at least one year of related experience; OR a combination of education and experience totaling five years.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Higher Education Leadership, Education, Advising, or other related discipline from an accredited institution and five years of related experience.

Knowledge
- Knowledge of higher education student success issues and advisement principles, theories, and techniques.
- Knowledge of the application of institutional data and fundamental quantitative and qualitative techniques in assessing the success of advising efforts.
- Knowledge of information technology fundamentals and desktop computing hardware.
- Knowledge of predictive analysis platforms/applications used to increase effectiveness of student success efforts.
- Knowledge of training and professional development principles, techniques, programs, and products.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Skills in higher education advising/counseling.
- Skills in collecting, compiling, and evaluating information/data.
- Skills in designing assessments and reporting assessment results.
- Skills in developing required training materials and in giving effective and engaging presentations, both online and in-person.
- Skills in project management.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and other data analysis platforms.
- Ability to excel with minimal supervision and direction.
- Ability to foster working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and passion for student success.
- Ability to operate and effectively use a variety of digital media technologies.
