Position Description

Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of the Campus Service Center, the Production Manager for Reprographic Services operates in a team-centered environment and is responsible for managing the high-volume reprographic production needs of the University's staff, faculty, and students.
This role oversees the entire production process, from design concept to delivery, ensuring quality control and alignment with Seattle University's values, brand, and reputation. The Production Manager leads a team of staff and student employees, maintains relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders, and ensures operations run efficiently while providing excellent customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Production Management and Operations:
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of Reprographics; prioritizing incoming work.
  • Operate and troubleshoot high-volume printers, cutters, and related equipment.
  • Safeguard confidential documents, such as exams, W-2s, and other sensitive materials.
  • Manage bulk mailings, including address list certification and timely delivery to the Post Office.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Conduct annual inventory of department materials and oversee department budget.
  • Ensure billing information is accurate and update job tickets throughout production.
  • Develop and maintain web-based store front.

Customer Service and Collaboration:
  • Serve as a production expert, advising faculty, staff, and students on print jobs and troubleshooting issues.
  • Provide minimal graphic design and art support as needed.
  • Assist customers with graphic design, layout, and material selection.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the Marketing and Communication Department to ensure compliance with university branding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Campus Retail Services to establish community relationships and explore revenue-generating opportunities.

Team Leadership and Staff Training:
  • Lead, train, and supervise a team of staff and student employees on production processes, equipment, and software.
  • Conduct interviews, hire staff, and recommend disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Provide ongoing training on internal procedures, hardware, and software usage.

Equipment and Resource Management:
  • Ensure proper maintenance and operation of high-volume printers, cutters, and binding equipment.
  • Evaluate and recommend hardware and software upgrades to meet departmental needs.
  • Meet with vendors to procure supplies and consumables, ensuring timely delivery for critical projects.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of paper, office supplies, and consumables.

Cost Management and Quality Assurance:

  • Evaluate and adjust product pricing to remain competitive with the current market.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates, ensuring economical and efficient production.
  • Ensure quality control at all stages of production, from sampling to delivery.


Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Graphic Design, Digital Design, or a related field, plus two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of management experience in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat) and Quite Imposing Plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of binding techniques and equipment operation.
  • Binding, booklet making, business card cutting, folding, hole punching, scanning, and laminating.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with a customer-service focus.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently.
  • Knowledge of copyright law and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 70 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Art, or Business.
  • Experience in a copy or quick printing environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and other design tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, bend, kneel, stand, or sit for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity for operating office machinery, such as binding equipment and printers.

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
