Job Summary:
Seeking a full-time, Research Services Open-Rank Professional (Entry thru Intermediate) to join a research laboratory within the Department of Craniofacial Biology, School of Dental Medicine. The successful candidate will be key contributor to projects exploring signaling in mammalian craniofacial development. The laboratory utilizes an array of complementary approaches such as whole mount and sectional in situ hybridization, genomics, conditional mutagenesis in the mouse, next-generation sequencing and in vitro cell activity assays to explore novel aspects of craniofacial biology and ultimately provide therapeutic directions aimed at the prevention of human birth defects.
The RSP will perform mouse husbandry and genotyping via PCR, prepare frozen/paraffin sections of mouse embryos for histological and expression analyses, assist in molecular cloning, prepare common solutions and stocks, maintain laboratory databases, place laboratory orders and contribute to laboratory compliance. Additional responsibilities may include independent experiments that contribute to the laboratory's goal of defining the mechanisms driving normal development of facial bones and cartilages. Other duties will be as assigned.
The RSP should be highly motivated and able to work independently, but cooperatively, within a research laboratory environment. The position requires exceptional organizational skills, record-keeping abilities and attention to detail. The RSP should be able to clearly and effectively communicate with the research team and is expected to fully participate in laboratory meetings and journal clubs.
Entry-level professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. At the entry level, duties are limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals and are performed in a training and development capacity.
Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.
At the intermediate level, duties are less limited in scope and are performed independently with occasional guidance and direction from other professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects and perform experiments.
- Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results.
- Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, ordering supplies, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas.
- Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary.
- Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.
- Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information.
- Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit, and related issues.
- Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices, and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs.
- Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Entry Level Professional:
- A bachelor's degree in biology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, developmental biology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis
Entry-Level Preferred Qualifications:
- Six months experience of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
Intermediate Professional:
- A bachelor's degree in biology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, developmental biology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
- One year or more of professional experience in an experimental or wet laboratory environment.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Intermediate -Level Preferred Qualifications:
- One or more years of experience with animal husbandry.
- One or more years of experience with molecular biology techniques, including PCR.
- Experience with planning, presenting and conducting independent experiments.
- Experience with histology, including paraffin and frozen block sectioning and staining.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) with a research team
- Experience and ability with independent laboratory management and record keeping.
- Experience with animal breeding and handling.
- Experience with molecular biology and PCR.
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
- Demonstrate that they are well-organized, reliable, independent, and possess considerable attention to detail.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
- Must be hard working, independent yet team-oriented, flexible, and able to communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) with a research team

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as
Entry Level Laboratory Professional ($45,000-$52,650)
Intermediate Laboratory Professional ($48,970-$57,295)
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
