Position Information
Hiring Department: Library

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends
FLSA status: Exempt
Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and education.

The primary accountabilities are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.
Purpose of Position
Professional position responsible for working with the Head of Research and Instruction to develop and implement research and information literacy skills campus-wide, with an emphasis on the online learning environment. Will assist colleagues in developing information literacy instructional materials for use in synchronous and asynchronous online courses, and work with faculty and instructors in integrating information literacy into curriculum.
Essential Functions
Provides general and specialized information literacy instructional services in the Library, across campus and online.
Collaborates with faculty and colleagues to create tailored, practical, relevant instructional materials to teach information literacy skills to students in the contexts of their class assignments.
Coordinates development and creation of instructional content for synchronous and asynchronous online information literacy lessons.
Primary liaison responsibilities include Educational Leadership & Foundations, Counseling, Special Education, Educational Psychology, Teacher Education.
Participates in collection development for assigned subject areas including weeding materials, serials review, and consulting with faculty on acquisitions.
Works with Graduate school to provide general and specialized research assistance and to organize workshops and outreach events.
Works with introductory RWS and UNIV courses to create lessons, activities, and information literacy instruction.
Collaborate with colleagues to create and maintain online information literacy tutorials.
Supports UTEP faculty and staff's use of Library resources and services in their online teaching and learning.
Contributes to outreach efforts for library instruction services and information literacy by creating instructional and promotional
materials, coordinating events, and collaborating with librarian colleagues in the Research & Instruction Department.
Develops expertise in the use of the institution's preferred instructional tools to maximize their potential benefit for use in information literacy instruction.
Maintains an up-to-date, working knowledge general and specialized resources/databases.
Provides general and specialized research assistance at the Access Services Desk, via virtual meeting platforms, via email, and via online chat.
Keeps up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of information literacy, instructional technologies, instructional design, assessment, emerging practices, and information literacy standards.
Combines knowledge of learning theories, expertise in library and information resources, and public speaking skills to create positive, productive learning experiences.
Prepares instructional materials in a variety of mediums to effectively educate students with different learning styles, experiences, and abilities.
Actively seeks new opportunities to implement information literacy instruction by networking with faculty, being well-informed about degree plans, and keeping abreast of campus-wide initiatives.
Builds relationships across campus to create and maintain a deeper understanding of how library services support the University's student success initiatives.
Contributes to the Library, the University, and the profession through involvement in committees, organizations, and service activities.
Periodic evening and weekend work as required.
Will become proficient in the Alma library management system.
Will become proficient in all Access Services, Research, procedures.
Performs other duties as required.
Complies with all State and University policies.
Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Education: Master's Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited library school
and
Experience: Excellent skills, with a strong service orientation. Experience in online learning environments. Knowledge of instructional design. Familiarity with active learning techniques. Familiarity with Instruction assessment practices.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in use of Blackboard, Springshare products, video production software, and web design. Experience in information literacy instruction and assessment. Experience creating instruction materials for remote or online audiences. Working knowledge of Spanish strongly desired. Knowledge of ACRL Information Literacy Framework. Professional public service work in an academic or research library.Experience with any library management system, preferably Alma.
