JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Worcester Polytechnic Institute invites applications for the endowed Robert and Carol Peura Professorship in Biomedical Engineering (BME). This prestigious professorship, the first of its kind in BME, will be made at the Associate or Full Professor level. The WPI Department of Biomedical Engineering (www.wpi.edu/+BME) delivers a vibrant ABET-accredited undergraduate BME program with approximately 500 undergraduate and 70 graduate students pursuing BS, MS, MEng, and Ph.D. degrees. Our collegial and diverse faculty work collaboratively in providing exceptional teaching and mentoring in the context of progressive interdisciplinary research to solve some of the most complex societal problems. The BME Department is housed in the WPI Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park (www.wpi.edu/Admin/LSBC/index.html), a state-of-the-art, mixed-use research facility. WPI's campus is located in Worcester, Massachusetts, a thriving 21st century college city recognized as a growing hub of scientific and technological innovation about one hour west of Boston. WPI also has a joint Ph.D. program with the University of Massachusetts Medical School, located 2 miles from WPI, which offers additional research opportunities with over 30 biomedical research clusters.
WPI is passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity. We are looking for candidates who can support our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Outstanding applicants with research and teaching interests and a Ph.D. in any area of BME or related discipline are welcome to apply. Areas of special interest to the department include neuroengineering, biomedical robotics, biomedical artificial intelligence, medical systems biology, additive biomanufacturing and nanotechnology-based biosensing. Ideal candidates will have interests that are complementary to, or synergistic with, the department's existing research strengths (biomechanics, biomaterials, biosensors, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, robotic surgery, advanced biomanufacturing, and bioMEMs), and will value innovation, creativity, diversity, inclusion, and collaboration. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of outstanding research, excellent teaching, and established leadership. BME faculty members are expected to effectively balance research, teaching, and service, including mentoring student projects at the undergraduate, Masters and doctoral levels.
WPI's reputation as a rigorous and innovative university rests on the shoulders of its faculty. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, separate teaching and research statements - each elucidating experience, interests, and leadership - a diversity statement, and the names and email addresses for five references. Please direct queries to gr-bme-faculty-search@wpi.edu .
