Description

Monterey Peninsula College's Continuing & Professional Education program offers innovative and equitable learning opportunities for community members. Continuing & Professional Education instructors play a vital role in developing, designing, and delivering a diverse range of courses that serve the unique needs and interests of our community. This position contributes to empowering individuals to enrich their lives and enhance their careers through lifelong learning, professional skill development, and personal development opportunities.

Example of Duties

Develop engaging and relevant course curricula and materials in alignment with community needs and educational goals.
Conduct interactive and informative classes, workshops, or seminars, ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.
Deliver content and teaching methods that meet the needs of diverse student learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds.
Actively engage with the community to identify educational needs and opportunities for program improvement.
Engage in continuous learning and professional development related to the instruction provided.
Assist in marketing and promotion of classes to increase participation and community awareness.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education, experience, and training which would indicate possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities listed herein.

Ability to: work effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, tact, friendliness, poise and firmness; demonstrate skills associated with the job in assigned subject area; communicate satisfactorily in both oral and written form; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

Knowledge of: the skills and abilities relevant to the subject area as needed to fulfill requirements of the job.

Desired Qualifications (not required):

  • Prior teaching or training experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise and proficiency in the subject matter to be taught.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse group of participants.
  • Passion for community education and lifelong learning
  • Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate evening or weekend classes, as needed
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment for all community members.
AND

Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to and appreciation for, the academic, ethnic, socio-economic, disability and gender diversity of students and staff attending or working on a community college campus.

Conditions of Employment

Teaching assignments are part-time and temporary in nature. The College determines and approves all course offerings, class schedules, enrollment limitations, and instructional assignments. Salary is dependent on course enrollment and instructor agreement.

Our Educational and Community Partners
A number of other institutions cooperate with Monterey Peninsula College in serving the postsecondary education demands of the Monterey Peninsula. Among those are California State University, Monterey Bay, Hopkins Marine Station of Stanford University, the Defense Language Institute, Middlebury Institute of International Studies, Monterey College of Law, and the Naval Postgraduate School. The College also enjoys a collaborative relationship with the Monterey County Business Council and the Monterey County Workforce Investment Board.

MPC is partnering with Monterey Peninsula Unified School District and Pacific Grove Unified School District to offer college level coursework in both academic and vocational tracks through its College and Career Access Pathways. MPC and CSU, Monterey Bay have collaborated in enrolling students in cohort-based programs in which students take classes at both MPC and CSU, Monterey Bay while earning a CSU, Monterey Bay degree.
