Job Description:
What We Are Looking For
The primary responsibilities of the Field Supervisor are mentoring, and supervision of student enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry degree program. The Field Supervisor often becomes a key encourager and the main source of external accountability in the step-by-step process of the program.
A doctoral degree in a relevant field, and five years of relevant work experience are required.
This is a part-time, non-benefits eligible position. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
What You Will Do
Every Doctor of Ministry (DMin.) student at Truett Seminary works under the leadership of two persons who form the student's Doctoral Committee: a Faculty Supervisor and a Field Supervisor. The Faculty Supervisor has final responsibility for most of the student's academic work and grading, especially the Culminating Project. The Field Supervisor fulfills at least two key roles during the entire program:
1. Guiding and expecting accountability of the student in completing her/his assignments at every phase; and
2. Mentoring the student in the competency portion of the DMin. program. We also hope that the Field Supervisor will be vitally involved in work leading to the Culminating Project, and be an active participant in the Oral Defense of the project.
The Field Supervisor serves in a mentoring and supervisory role during the first two years of the DMin. program. During the Culminating Project phase, the Field Supervisor serves in an advisory role, assisting the Faculty Supervisor as the student proposes and completes the Culminating Project. The mentoring and accountability relationship, formed during the first two years of meetings between Field Supervisor and student, often pays great dividends to the student during the work on the Culminating Project.
Many Field Supervisors become mentors, supervisors, and also friends during this process. If the mentoring and supervisory roles are established and effective, the encouragement and nurturing from the friendship can be a great factor in the student's progress and eventual success in the program.
