Placement/Range: Starting salary is $151,505 (Step 1) annually. NOTE: The Superintendent/President has the authority to offer up to $163,868 (Step 3).

Position Summary:
Celebrating nearly 100 years of service, Citrus College is located in Glendora in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, approximately twenty-five miles northeast of metropolitan Los Angeles. The college has the distinction of being the oldest community college in Los Angeles County and the fifth oldest in the state. Citrus College was founded in 1915 under the leadership of Dr. Floyd S. Hayden, who helped bring the community college movement to California. From 1915 to 1961, the college was operated by the Citrus Union High School District. In July 1961, the Citrus Community College District was created to include the Azusa and Glendora unified school districts. In 1967, the district expanded to include the Claremont, Duarte and Monrovia school districts.

Today, Citrus College occupies a 104-acre campus. The college is currently experiencing a major facilities expansion project that will change the look of the campus. The college enrolled 27 students in 1915 and currently the college serves more than 11,000 students. Classes are offered on a 16-week calendar (fall and spring semesters), as well as in a variety of non-traditional scheduling options -- six-week winter intersession, evenings, late start and early end, summer sessions, and optional class formats, such as distance education online courses and distance education integrated classes.

The Citrus Community College District seeks an experienced, energetic executive leader with a clear, focused commitment to teaching, learning, and academic excellence to provide collaborative and decisive leadership to the District's academic programs.

Under the direction of the Superintendent/President, the Vice President of Academic Affairs serves as the chief academic officer of the District and is responsible for educational policy and academic programs. Primary responsibilities include providing executive leadership and management for a comprehensive array of student learning and support operations including, but not limited to, instructional program and course development, college of completion goals and objectives, learning support services, integrated planning, institutional effectiveness, student learning outcomes, program evaluation, curriculum design and development, enrollment management, professional development, faculty assignments, and budget development and management.

Under the direction of the Superintendent/President, the Vice President of Academic Affairs is accountable for achievement of the District's mission within the scope of Academic Affairs as set forth in the District's Strategic Plan, and for assessing and meeting the educational and vocational needs of the community. The Vice President of Academic Affairs should possess the ability to inspire and connect with all constituency groups across campus and in the community.

The Vice President of Academic Affairs should be an innovative thinker who seeks innovative solutions to problem solving and is a critical thinker with outstanding interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The salary range for this position is $151,505 (Step 1 on the Management Salary Schedule) plus two and one half percent (2.5%) for possession of a doctorate earned from an accredited institution by the close date of this posting.

Initial placement on the management salary schedule for newly hired managers is Step 1 ($151,505); however, the Superintendent/President has the authority to place a new manager on the salary schedule up to Step 3 ($163,868).

Plans and leads the instructional program (credit, non-credit, not-for-credit) in accordance with the District's Strategic Plan, established mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures.

Leads, analyzes, and anticipates the needs of the District from a college-wide perspective and formulates strategies to more effectively meet the instructional mission today and into the future.

Leads and directs systematic processes and studies for evaluating adequacy and effectiveness of academic programs.

Facilitates the development and implementation of new programs and courses, curriculum revisions and continuous refinement of the District's instructional offerings in conjunction with faculty and management staff.

Advances the economic growth and global competitiveness of the District through education, training, and services, especially workforce development, and contract education.

Supervises the preparation of class schedules, including the calculation of faculty load and instructional costs.

Works cooperatively with the Vice President of Student Services in all matters related to the coordination of the academic programs and student services.

Serves as the primary link between the Academic Affairs staff and Administrative Services in all budgetary matters related to academic programs. Prepares and maintains comprehensive budgets for academic programs.

Leads in the development, implementation, and assessment of Student Learning and Program Outcomes for all academic programs and services.

Serves as the District's primary liaison with the Academic Senate.

Provides leadership to the District's integrative planning process and oversees all plans related to the academic program.

Directs a regular process of course and program review whereby courses and programs are added to or removed from the District's curriculum.

Facilitates and oversees a program of professional development for faculty and other academic employees.

Participates in the hiring and evaluation of faculty and staff.

Fosters cohesion and a sense of working together for the good of the District, its faculty, staff, and students, and is committed to the effective use of technology within academic and administrative environments.

Provides assistance to and serves, as needed, on the District negotiating teams, assists in the preparation of negotiation proposals and ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements.

Ensures Academic Affairs faculty and staff evaluation procedures are consistent with negotiated agreements and District policies and procedures.

Assists in resolution of faculty and staff grievances and complaints in accordance with administrative procedures and collective bargaining agreements.

Delegates responsibility and authority while maintaining accountability.

Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position and the District's mission and philosophy.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, cultural background, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff,
Possession of a Master's degree (or higher) from an accredited institution or foreign transcripts evaluated by a bona fide U.S. evaluation service as equivalent to a Master's Degree (or higher) OR Possession of a California Community College Administrative Credential (valid for life),
A minimum of three (3) years of successful leadership experience as a senior administrator at an institution of higher education.  

Preferred Qualifications:
Recent management/administrator leadership experience in an educational (community college) environment.
Ability to work in a shared governance (or collegial) environment.
Evidence of involvement in instructional planning.
Experience with technology.
Full-time teaching experience at the post-secondary level, preferably in a community college setting.
