Job Description:

The University of San Diego seeks a motivated and energetic web developer for its university web team. The position is responsible for assisting departments in the start-up and management of university websites. The successful candidate meets with clients (faculty, staff and students) in the planning phase to determine their website needs and makes recommendations. Once approved, assists departments in implementing their sites. The position also fields customer support requests and needs from across campus.

Will assist in managing the design, development, maintenance, and overall architecture of the university’s website and its services as directed. The position is also responsible for concept development, prototype design, documentation, navigation, general functionality, image optimization, quality assurance, final execution, and ongoing maintenance oversight. The position will provide tools that give content maintainers the ability to review and edit content and ensure that overall visual identity practices are in accordance to general university policy. Additionally a key focus is the training of website technologies and web practices to the general community.

The position is dual-reporting and reports part-time to Information Technology Services for centralized technology oversight; additionally reports to the College of Arts and Sciences part-time and has a role in managing and planning the school’s website environment and supports the maintainers of that site. During a 3-5 year cycle will be responsible for managing and directing the overall redesign of the academic website, including research, information architecture planning, design, development, content transition, site rollout, and maintainer training

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher-education institution in Computer Science, Computer or Business Information Systems, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of or experience working in a higher education environment.
• At least two (2) years experience working with a relational database system (MySQL preferred).
• Experience with AP style

Technical
• At least two (2) years of experience in web, programming, publishing (online or print), media, or related field.
• Experience in translating wireframes and design mockups and turning them into HTML/CSS.
• Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) methods and standards.
• Experience working within a responsive design framework.
• Experience with Web 2.0 technologies and social networking integration.
• Understand the importance of staying current in the technology field and rapidly learning new and changing software and tools.
• Experience training non-technical peers and developing documentation for website maintenance and usage.

Performance Expectations: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Experience or good working knowledge of the following:
• Technologies: HTML/XHTML, CSS, XML, Javascript, PHP
• Web Tools: Dreamweaver, Contribute, text editors, WordPress, Cascade Server, or other CMS tools
• Graphics Tools: Photoshop
• Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) methods and standards.
• Experience working within a responsive design framework.
• Experience with Web 2.0 technologies, and integration of social networking
• Knowledgeable about web-related emerging technology and development
• Collaborative tools: Streaming, Podcasting
• Write quality, standards-compliant, readable code in a timely manner.
• Independent worker for completing projects from start to finish.

Hours: 40 hours per week. Monday – Friday; 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
