Position Summary
This position will provide specialized application technical support, consultation, and training to the UNC Asheville campus community across a variety of technologies. Typical areas of support include client/server software, operating systems, applications, and generalized networking. Examples of technologies supported on the UNC Asheville campus include Windows PCs, Macs, Android and iOS mobile devices, relational databases, access control systems, web applications, event management systems, video security systems, and card identification systems.

Supported clients include UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff with a wide range of technical knowledge and skill levels. This position is highly visible and active on campus and will serve as a primary point of contact and resolution for many administrative units; therefore, excellent customer service and communication skills are very important.

Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications)
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in the field of technology related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred education/experience/skills:
* Bachelor's degree in IT related discipline
* Experience supporting technology in a university and/or higher education environment.
* Various technical certifications may be applicable.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
* Current technical knowledge of common hardware, mobile devices, operating systems, applications, and networking technologies.
* Analytical/troubleshooting skills.
* Ability to work well with users of varying skill levels.

Works independently on routine /non-complex tasks. Monitors progress against defined parameters.

Project Management:
Serves as a productive project team member by completing assigned routine tasks.

Technical Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of technology principles and terminology associated with the work unit. Understanding of basic troubleshooting techniques and principles.

Technical Solution Development:
May serve as a technical resource for basic solutions to clients.

Technical Support:
Capable of resolving routine problems based on existing documentation, /training, and resources. Ability to solicit relevant information from client in order to sufficiently describe non-routine problems to technical expert, and effectively communicate solution to client. Works with clients to identify basic issues and recommends solutions. Ability to identify technical specialty areas and to escalate problems appropriately for rapid resolution.

Consultancy Skills:
Determines client needs and effectively communicates back to technical experts.
