Senior Report Writer & Data Analyst

The Senior Report Writer & Data Analyst is responsible for business analysis, custom report writing, and technical direction regarding data structures and reporting queries. Specific responsibilities include working with decision makers, system owners, and end users to define, develop, and implement custom and standard development and alumni reports; providing technical direction, support, and assistance to users in extracting and collecting data for performing queries and running reports; and translating data into usable, actionable information for both Development and the Alumni & Friends Network.

• Works directly with Development and Alumni & Friends Network managers to define needs and translate data into usable, actionable information for the execution of fundraising and engagement strategies as well as measures of success.
• Monitors industry data and reporting trends, including benchmarking and metrics, and seeks to apply relevant practices in support of College fundraising and engagement goals.
• Develops new and enhances existing reports for easy viewing and understanding, including complex reports requiring translation between programmer and end users.
• Provides training and documentation for producing reports on-demand.
• Tests new and revised reports for data accuracy and reporting reliability.
• Produces data integrity reports and assists in monitoring data for compliance with data quality standards.
• Promotes secure data practices in execution of duties and through user training.
• Acts as a liaison between the Development and Alumni & Friends Network departments and the central IT Services Division.
• Ensures that all scripting, coding, report writing, etc. meets the standards set by central IT and Advancement with regard to the utilization of source control, languages and techniques used, and documentation, etc.
• Serves as a technical subject matter expert and provides support for assigned systems and applications including training, issue resolution, implementations, and ongoing maintenance.
• As a member of the Advancement Systems team, assists in the following team efforts: evaluating complex business problems and effectively communicating alternative solutions at the technical and user levels; managing vendor relationships; designing, implementing, and improving processes to ensure data integrity and security; and ensuring that the Advancement systems environment facilitates a strategic, integrated program of alumni engagement, prospect identification, research, and donor management in support of major fundraising campaigns.
• Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Minimum Level of Education Required:
Bachelor's Degree

Additional Required Skills & Abilities:

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a report writing or data analysis role, preferably in higher education or fundraising.
• Expert knowledge of reporting from an Oracle or SQL Server enterprise database system such as Millennium, Raiser's Edge, Banner, Advance, PeopleSoft, etc.
• Experience designing complex reports using common enterprise reporting applications, preferably Crystal Reports, and demonstrated ability to collect business requirements and translate them into actionable reports.
• Functional knowledge of SQL for querying database tables and interpreting existing code.
• Experience utilizing standard statistical software such as SAS, excellent analytical and quantitative skills, and demonstrated ability to analyze data for the development, manipulation and interpretation of statistical business models.
• Practical understanding of project management methodologies and demonstrated ability to organize work and establish priorities.
• Strong relationship management skills and ability to work with ethnically, culturally, and socially diverse students, staff, faculty, and other constituencies in a collaborative and cooperative spirit.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
• Flexibility and willingness to assume new tasks and special projects.

Working Conditions:
May require occasional nights and/or weekend work

Additional Experience, Skills & Abilities:
• Master's Degree with coursework in statistical modeling preferred
• Experience in a higher education fundraising environment preferred
• Knowledge of Millennium and Crystal Reports is preferred
