John and Willie Leone Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering (http://www.eme.psu.edu) at the Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty Assistant Professor position starting August 2013 in the field of renewable/sustainable energy engineering. The Department is vibrant and growing fast with 33 faculty members, about 175 graduate students, and 1400 undergraduate students in six undergraduate programs. Four ABET accredited undergraduate engineering programs in Energy Engineering, Environmental Systems Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering along with two undergraduate programs in Energy Business and Finance and Energy and Sustainability Policy are housed in the Department making it a home for engineering, business and policy issues related to earth and energy. At the graduate level, the department offers MS and PhD degrees in Energy and Mineral Engineering with options in energy management and policy, environmental health and safety engineering, fuel science, mining and mineral process engineering, and petroleum and natural gas engineering.

Successful candidate for the position must hold a doctoral degree in energy related Engineering discipline. Some post-doctoral experience is preferable but not required. The successful candidate must demonstrate potential to establish an outstanding externally-funded research program in the area of renewable/sustainable energy (solar, wind, biomass etc.) science and engineering and must have the ability to teach effectively undergraduate engineering courses including thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. The candidate will also be expected to teach graduate courses in energy related areas over time. All faculty are encouraged to collaborate with other energy and earth- related faculty associated with research institutes such as Penn State’s Institutes of Energy and Environment (www.psiee.psu.edu) and Materials Research Institute (www.mri.psu.edu) within the University.
